Good news story for Galway - Anthony Ryans – Celebrating 100 years in business
27 Aug 2009

Anthony Ryans, one of Galway’s longest established and most successful retailers celebrates its 100th year in business on Thursday July 27th 2009.

Joining The Ryan family in the celebrations will be Mayor of Galway Declan McDonnell who will be on hand to turn the key and officially open Anthony Ryans as it enters into its second century of trading. Also in attendance will be Meglena Kuneva – European Commissioner for Consumer Protection.

Anthony Ryans was established on Shop Street, Galway in 1909 when Anthony Ryan and his wife Catherine set up a family drapery store on the same location as the shop is today. From small beginnings the company established a firm trading position in the heart of Galway. Anthony Ryans currently offers a wide selection of clothing brands for men, women, children, lingerie, fashion accessories and Homewares across four separate retail outlets in Galway City Centre.

Celebrating 100 years of continuous business is a rare occurrence in modern times when the business environment changes so rapidly. When Anthony Ryan, Managing Director of Anthony Ryans, was asked what is the secret to this success, he commented ‘throughout the history of the company we have always stuck to our core values of offering quality leading branded merchandise at affordable prices alongside excellent customer service’. He also added that ‘One hundred years of trade from the same location is a testament to three generations of smart business acumen and wonderful employees who really make the business the success it is today. Our dedicated sales teams know and understand our customers and this has also been a key ingredient to our success to date’.

Anthony Ryan has invited the public to visit the store for complimentary hospitality and some special shopping treats. ‘It is a proud moment for all who have been associated with the success of the business down through the years. Indeed, it’s a ‘good news’ story for Galway in times when bad news seems to be the order of the day’
